Typically, interconnection is used for handover of long distance and international calls, local calls between the networks, handover of mobile traffic and other call types. Interconnection is a prerequisite for the provision of a full suite of telephony services to a customer’s end users.
Interconnect Network Services include:
- interconnect capacity, consisting of Switchports (2Mbits/s interfaces(G.703));
- signalling interconnection (using CCS7 network signalling using I-ISUP);
- synchronisation links;
- network conditioning.
Interconnection with Telstra’s network requires detailed technical and commercial discussions about the customer’s proposed interconnect network, services required, signalling and synchronisation, compliance testing, network planning and rollout. Interconnection with Telstra usually takes around 12 months.
