Creating the best solution to meet our customers' needs is central to our commitment to supporting our customers' businesses. Our expert team of solutions engineers combine their technological and sales skills to offer our customers credible advice about Wholesale's product and service capabilities. In this edition, we find out more about the valuable service our solutions engineers offer our customers.

Telstra Wholesale's solutions engineers are uniquely qualified to support our customers through their integration of product and service delivery features with operational support capabilities and pricing, to create a total business solution that meet can customer needs.

"Our solutions engineers have a broad understanding of our customers' business, commercial drivers and technical and operational capabilities" explains Solutions Engineer Shane Dobson.

"This insight enables them to develop and deliver a total solution to the customer."

Trusted advisers to our customers
According to Shane, our solutions engineers develop productive working relationships with our customers, enabling the engineers to act as credible and trusted advisers.

"Often our solutions engineers are the conduit between the customer and our Products and Engineering teams in developing new servicesin response to market needs," says Shane.

"To meet our customers' needs, solutions engineers need to have a sound knowledge of a customer's network and infrastructure. They gain this knowledge through cultivating strong relationships with our customers."

"A solutions engineer's role varies from responding to simple requests that can be met by existing products, through to the creation of more complex solutions that use standard prodcuts, but may cross several product portfolios or may rely on a rarely used product feature."

"Even more complex are the solutions where the customer requirement do not fit standard product capabilities."

"In these cases, our solutions engineers are ale to work with the customer to find a solution using existing either product capabilities or they may develop a cutomised solution."

Strength in data and broadband solutions
While Telstra Wholesale's solutions engineers work across all our product portfolios, they offer particular strengths in the area of data and broadband solutions.

As Solutions Engineer Godwin Sammut explains, the data and broadband product set is based on complex network infrastructure.

"Our solutions engineers have a broad and in-depth knowledge of the multiple data, broadband and special services platforms and can assist our customers in making sense of that complexity," says Godwin.

"We are also able to articulate the service delivery and operational support capabilities of these products, allowing our customers to better identify how we can support their needs."

Continuous skills and knowledge enhancement

Wholesale's solutions engineers need to be up-to-date with the industry's latest technological developments.

According to Godwin, there is a huge volume of technical information that solutions engineers need to be across.

"Not everything we need to know is documented, so we make sure we interface with technology professionals within Telstra and across the broader industry so we can ensure we have a strong understanding of different platforms," says Godwin.

"We use our technical competence to tease out the deeper technical information on those platforms so we are equipped to satisfy our customers' requirements."

"Our solutions engineers bring a wide range of skills and experiences gained from their backgrounds in sales, product marketing and engineering."
