Our strong commitment to our customers means that we continually look for ways to improve the products we offer. One area of focus is our data business access products, which combine Telstra Wholesale’s high-quality technical capabilities with outstanding geographic reach and competitive pricing. We recently introduced an enhancement to Wholesale’s Business Digital Subscriber Line (BDSL) service - a new 100Mbit/s Ethernet head-end option. Our Product Manager, Next Generation Data, Rod Ferguson, shares his insights on this new feature.
The business access market is an important growth opportunity for Telstra Wholesale’s customers so we are constantly looking for ways to improve our range of products and services to enable our customers to deliver enhanced business IP applications.
“Telstra Wholesale’s BDSL offering provides dedicated, end-to-end business access services, supported by Australia’s most extensive network coverage with access speeds ranging from 256kbit/s to 4Mbit/s,” explains Rod.
“We are now expanding these capabilities to include the option of an Ethernet interface at the head-end, making it easier for our customers to integrate BDSL access tails into their own IP networks. The new BDSL Ethernet head-end option offers aggregated bandwidth choices of 20Mbit/s, 50Mbit/s or 100Mbit/s.”
Our focus is continuous improvement
This enhancement is part of Telstra Wholesale’s product innovation roadmap, designed to deliver new features and functionality aligned to the evolving needs of the business access market.
“We have recently reviewed our Business Access charging zones and bands to allow us to better align our pricing with the value we are offering,” says Rod.
“Telstra has more than 1,800 BDSL-enabled exchanges which means we can offer our Wholesale customers access to seamless network connectivity for the majority of business premises Australia-wide.
“The choice of an Ethernet or ATM head-end allows our customers to select the most appropriate aggregation technology, helping to reduce their infrastructure costs.
“Further enhancements to our Business Access products are in development for release in 2010.”
Our competitive edge
Telstra Wholesale’s Business Access offerings already have the widest coverage of any copper-based Business Access product, and now also offer full Ethernet interfacing.
“Our user-friendly tools provide our customers with confirmation of availability at an end-customer address, supported by our online B2B systems for ordering, activation, delivery and assurance with real-time status reporting
“This addition of an Ethernet head-end option for aggregating Business Access offerings demonstrates Telstra Wholesale’s commitment to the needs of the business access market, and its ongoing investment in refining and improving its connectivity products.”
