Telstra’s new submarine cable connecting Australia and the US is now open for business, promising increased capacity, higher internet speeds and more network resilience.
Telstra Wholesale Group Managing Director Kate McKenzie says the 9,120 km Telstra Endeavour cable will benefit all Telstra customers.
“This is the first international cable to be laid out of Australia in seven years,” Kate says.
“It is the only Australian cable that is 100 per cent owned and operated by an Australian company – Telstra.”
Benefits for Telstra’s customers
The Telstra Endeavour cable offers Telstra’s customers:
- higher internet speeds and greater security when they access information from the United States through BigPond, and when they use services such as telecommuting and videoconferencing.
- an expanded range and quality of services for business customers including advanced multimedia and e-commerce applications, and more intelligent network services.
- a stable and reliable link between Australia and the US.
The cable can carry up to 128 Terabits per second of traffic and has been transmitting data since mid-September.
Fastest and most direct route
“Telstra Endeavour offers the fastest and most direct route to the US, and Telstra Wholesale is offering protected capacity using the Australia-Japan cable,” Kate says.
“Our customers can take advantage of the capacity as International Private Line (IPL) capacity or access it as part of our meshed Telstra Wholesale Internet network.”
Kate says the cable is built to carry the increasing volume of data transferred between Australia and the United States via the internet.
“The United States currently accounts for around 65 per cent of all internet content,” she says.
“We’re confident Telstra Endeavour will be of great benefit to Telstra customers.”
